Welcome to tofa

tofa is a media server you run yourself. You point it at your own movies and shows, and watch them from the tofa apps on your devices. Your files stay on your machine.

There are two pieces:

• Your server. One small program on a computer you control. It reads your media folders, organizes your library, finds artwork, and streams to your devices.
• The apps. Sign in with your tofa account and your server shows up, ready to play. The same account works on every device.

One small install#

The server is one program that manages everything itself, including its own database and automatic backups. The setup we recommend is Docker: one container, one line to install, on a Linux box or a NAS. Native installers for Linux, macOS, and Windows are there when you'd rather skip Docker. There's nothing else to install either way.

You'll need a computer that stays on, your media in folders, and the tofa account. Create a beta account and verify your email. Run your tofa server walks through setup for each platform.

Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad apps are available on the App Store. Android TV is available on Google Play. Get the apps.

During the beta#

• New builds ship often. tofa shows an update banner in the web interface, and on most setups it can apply the update for you. Where it can't, the banner tells you exactly what to run.
• Rough edges are normal. When you hit one, telling us is the most useful thing you can do. Getting help & feedback covers what to send.
• Your data survives updates. Everything tofa stores lives in one data folder and is backed up automatically.
