Discover

Find something to watch: picks for you, what's trending, what's coming up, the best of every genre, and universes.

4 min read

Discover is where you find something new to watch, in your library or not yet. It was rebuilt in server 0.12.0 and is on the web app today, at app.tofa.tv and on your server's own web page. It's on Apple TV from version 2.1.0, and comes to the other TV apps with their next updates.

Everything that shapes Discover for you (the genres you follow, what you've marked, your filters) belongs to your profile. Two people on the same server each get their own Discover.

The tabs#

Discover has six tabs: For You, Trending, Coming Up, Best Of, Universes and Genres. A tab only appears when it has something to show you.

For You#

For You is built from your taste. It can open with Recommended for You, picked from your watch history, with titles from your library and titles you could request. Then come rows from your favourite genres, the best of your top genre, what's trending, and Genres to Try.

Your taste is the genres you follow, plus the genres you've watched most in the last 90 days. Followed genres always come first. Your watch history stays on your server.

For You appears once your profile has followed a genre or watched enough to go on. If you're new, follow a genre or two to get it started.

What people are watching now: the movie and TV charts, then a trending row for each genre, ordered by your taste.

Coming Up#

Coming Up is a week planner for what's on the way. Switch between TV Shows and Movies:

  • TV Shows lists new episodes of shows in your library, up to about six weeks ahead.
  • Movies lists films coming In cinemas or At home, up to about six months ahead, leaving out films you already have.

It shows seven days at a time, starting today. Use Next seven days and Previous seven days to move through the calendar. When a week is empty, it tells you what's next. Coming Up opens on the view you used last, or on TV Shows when one of your shows has an episode within two weeks.

Coming Up is for planning. To request a film, open its page.

Best Of#

Acclaimed films and series, new and noteworthy titles, and a tile for each decade.

Universes#

Every universe you have at least one title from. See Universes.

Genres#

A wall of genres, with your top three near the front. Seasonal genres lead when they're in season, such as Halloween in October and Holiday from mid-November. Profiles with parental controls see Kids & Family first.

Follow a genre#

Open a genre to see its trending titles, new releases and best films and series. Choose Follow to add it to your taste: followed genres shape For You and the order of your rows. Choose Following to unfollow.

Seen it and Not interested#

Discover suggests titles you might not have seen. When it gets one wrong, tell it:

  • Seen it means you've watched it somewhere else. The title stays on Discover with a check mark, and leaves your suggestions.
  • Not interested hides the title from Discover and from your suggestions.

You'll find both on the page of any title that isn't in your library, and in the ⋯ menu on suggestion cards. Home's suggestion row has Not interested too. Each one shows a message with Undo, and you can choose the button again to take it back.

Filters#

The Filters button narrows what Discover shows: Hide watched movies, Hide cinema-only movies, Hide upcoming and Only show my library. Reset filters clears them. Your filters are saved to your profile.

Titles you don't have#

Cards for titles that aren't in your library are marked as such, or show where a request stands. Open the card to see the title's page, where you can request it if your server takes requests. See Request titles.
