Your library
Organize Browse
Show your libraries together by type, give some of them their own section, or show every library on its own the way Plex does.
Browse is where everyone on your server finds what to watch. You decide how it is organized, once, for the whole server. Every app follows the same layout: web, iPhone and iPad, Apple TV, Android TV, LG and Samsung.
There are two layouts. We ask which one you want during setup, in the How your libraries show step. To change it later, open Libraries, choose Library defaults, and set Browse layout.
By type#
The default. Browse opens with Movies, TV Shows and Other, and each one brings every library of that kind together. If you keep your shows in two libraries, say TV Shows and Anime, both appear under TV Shows.
When a type spans two or more libraries, its page has a Library filter so anyone can narrow it to one.
Give a library its own section#
You can also show a library as its own section next to Movies, TV Shows and Other. This suits libraries people look for on purpose, like Anime, Kids or Concerts.
- Open Libraries and choose the library.
- Turn on Show in Browse as its own section.
The library's titles stay in their type section as well. Turn it on for as many libraries as you like. If every library of a type has its own section, the type's section hides, because it would only repeat them.
By library#
Every library is its own section in Browse, named the way you named it, and there are no combined Movies or TV Shows sections. If you are coming from Plex, this is the layout you know. Each library also gets its own Recently Added row on Home, for anyone who has not arranged Home themselves.
In this layout the per-library switch is replaced by a short note, because every library already has a section. Switch back to By type and the libraries you picked before keep their own sections.
Good to know
Links that point to a type, such as See all on a Home row, open the first library of that type instead.
An app that has not been updated yet keeps Movies, TV Shows and Other, and lists every library after them.
Recently Added dates#
Each library decides where the date behind Recently Added comes from. Open Libraries, choose the library, and set Date added under Scanning:
- File date uses each file's modified time, so a collection you bring in keeps its history and last year's films don't all show up as new.
- Scan date uses when the scan found the file.
Libraries you add from server 0.13.1 use File date. Libraries you had before keep Scan date until you change it. The choice applies to files found from then on. To re-date the titles you already have, save, then choose Use the file date for existing titles (or the scan date). It runs in the background.
What stays the same#
- Search and your watch history are not affected. On Home, only the Recently Added rows change, and people who arranged their own Home keep their rows.
- People only see the libraries they have access to. A library someone cannot see never shows up as a section for them.
- Empty libraries do not get a section.
- Changes apply straight away. Apps pick them up the next time Browse opens.
